Volunteers in Elk Creek, Montana are gearing up for National Public Lands Day on September 28th by working to make the area’s fences more friendly to wildlife. The Elk Creek area is home to a variety of wildlife including elk, deer, and other animals who struggle with the current fences that surround the public lands.
The Elk Creek Wildlife Management Unit is teaming up with local volunteers to make changes to the fences that will allow for easier passage for the wildlife in the area. These changes will include modifying fences to be more wildlife-friendly, repairing or removing fences that are no longer needed, and adding wildlife-friendly crossing points.
National Public Lands Day is a day dedicated to giving back to our public lands and ensuring they remain accessible and sustainable for years to come. Volunteers from all walks of life are encouraged to come out and lend a hand in helping to make these necessary changes to the Elk Creek area.
The Elk Creek project manager, Sarah Johnson, expressed her enthusiasm for the event and highlighted the importance of protecting and preserving the wildlife in the area. She emphasized the positive impact that these changes to the fences will have on the local wildlife population and the overall health of the Elk Creek ecosystem.
Volunteers are encouraged to bring gloves, water, and a willingness to help out with this important project. The event will kick off at 9 am on September 28th and will continue throughout the day. Those interested in participating can contact the Elk Creek Wildlife Management Unit for more information on how to get involved.
