The Pennsylvania Senate Republican Campaign Committee accused Democratic state Senator Jimmy Dillon of making racist and homophobic remarks on social media more than a decade ago. The accusations were based on offensive tweets posted by an account associated with a basketball academy Dillon operates. The SRCC provided screenshots of the tweets, which included derogatory language towards Black, Asian, and LGBTQ individuals. Dillon denied writing the tweets and claimed he was not active on social media. He emphasized his focus on standing up to MAGA extremists and protecting women’s reproductive rights. Dillon, who won a special election in 2022, is seeking re-election and will face a Republican nominee in November. The SRCC called for Dillon to be condemned for his alleged use of offensive language. Despite the accusations, a campaign spokesperson for Dillon dismissed them as distractions from important issues like reproductive rights and gun violence legislation. The Senate Democratic Campaign Committee also denied the allegations and emphasized Dillon’s record of advocating for marginalized communities. The origin of the offensive tweets remains unclear, but it is suggested that someone else may have written them. The controversy surrounding Dillon’s social media posts has caused a stir in the lead-up to the upcoming election.
