The Israeli military has stated that leaflets urging residents of a Lebanon border village to evacuate were unsanctioned. The leaflets, dropped on Sunday, were the first evacuation order amid ongoing cross-border fire between Hezbollah and Israel. Israel confirmed that a brigade had taken the initiative to drop the leaflets without approval. The leaflet warned residents to leave the area due to Hezbollah firing from the region and stated that anyone present after a certain time would be considered a terrorist. However, the Israeli military clarified that the release of the leaflets was unauthorized and no evacuation was in progress.
Residents of Wazzani, the village in question, have expressed reluctance to leave their homes and farms, despite the warning. The area is an agricultural region where Syrian refugees are often hired to work the land. The mayor of Wazzani, Ahmed al-Mohammed, stated that while some Syrian workers were leaving, the local farmers and livestock owners could not abandon their land.
The ongoing conflict between Hezbollah and Israel has already led to tens of thousands of civilians fleeing villages and towns on both sides of the Israel-Lebanon border. The unauthorized leaflets have caused confusion and raised tensions in the area, highlighting the continued fragility of the situation.
