Former United States President Donald Trump has announced that there will not be a third debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, despite the Harris campaign’s request for another debate following her strong showing in the previous one. The debate between the two candidates was one of the most watched events of the election season, attracting over 67 million viewers.
After the previous debate, pundits largely gave the edge to Harris, with many comparing her polished performance to Trump’s rambling one. Despite this, Trump rejected the possibility of a rematch in a post on the Truth Social platform. He framed the aftermath of the debate in his favor, suggesting that Harris only challenged him because she “lost.”
Political commentators from both parties have agreed that Harris had a stronger showing in the debate than Trump, and polls indicate that US voters also feel the same way. A survey found that 53% of voters felt Harris won, compared to just 24% who said the same of Trump.
While the debate outcome may not sway undecided voters in key battleground states, it is clear that Harris’s performance was well-received by viewers. The majority of registered voters surveyed expressed satisfaction with having only one debate between the two candidates, with 54% feeling that one debate was enough. The race between Harris and Trump remains neck and neck as the election approaches.
