Harris and Trump both in attendance at 9/11 ceremony following intense debate earlier in the day

Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump showed civility by shaking hands at a 9/11 memorial event, just hours after a heated debate. President Joe Biden and former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg were also present. A woman criticized Biden for a comment he made about “doing 9/11.” Biden and Harris attended the event to honor the lives lost and show support to their families. Trump and his vice presidential nominee JD Vance, along with other officials, visited a fire station and a financial services firm in lower Manhattan to pay respects. Harris and Biden later went to Shanksville, Pennsylvania for another ceremony. Previous presidential candidates have also attended 9/11 memorials including Trump and Hillary Clinton in 2016. Last year, Biden visited all three attack memorial sites for the 20th anniversary while Trump made stops at a police station and firehouse. Trump, who is a New York native, did not attend the memorial event in 2021 but issued a video statement to commemorate the day and honor the victims. Biden participated in various events to pay respect to those who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks.
