In the aftermath of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, independent journalists in Russia are facing increasing pressure as new media laws make it nearly impossible to continue their work. Prominent journalists like Nobel Peace Prize winner Dmitry Muratov are being threatened with long prison sentences for their reporting, forcing them to make difficult decisions about whether to stay in the country, go to jail, adapt to the new laws, or close their media outlets. Within weeks, some of Russia’s most trusted independent news sources are expected to shut down or go into exile. The documentary film “Of Caravan and the Dogs” by Askold Kurov & Anonymous 1 sheds light on the challenges faced by these journalists during this critical time in Russia’s history.
