Polish divers made an incredible discovery during a recent dive expedition in the Baltic Sea. Marek Cacaj and Pawel Truszynski stumbled upon a well-preserved 19th-century sailing ship loaded with luxury goods including about 100 bottles of Champagne, mineral water, and porcelain items. The divers believe the ship sank while en route to Stockholm or St. Petersburg, carrying these precious items meant for the royal table.
The leader of the team, Tomasz Stachura, expressed his excitement at the find, calling it a first in his 40 years of diving. The Champagne bottles, still nestled within the wreckage, bear an unknown brand, but the letter R can be seen on one cork. The divers believe the contents of the bottles are still in good condition due to the constant temperature, lack of currents, and darkness at the site.
Champagne and mineral water experts have shown interest in testing the contents of the bottles, but Swedish authorities will decide the next steps in exploring the wreck. The discovery has sparked curiosity about tasting Champagne from the 19th-century and has captured the attention of historians, archaeologists, and luxury goods enthusiasts.
The find highlights the importance of underwater exploration and the preservation of historical artifacts. It serves as a reminder of the rich history of the Baltic Sea and the mysteries that lie beneath its depths.
