Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks have announced the closure of the upper Blackfoot River due to safety concerns caused by downed power lines. This closure extends from River Junction Fishing Access Site to Russel Gates Memorial Fishing Access Site. The power lines were knocked into the water during a severe storm that hit the area on Wednesday, causing widespread damage.
In addition to the Blackfoot River closure, the Clark Fork River from Milltown State Park to Petty Creek Fishing Access Site and the Bitterroot River from Chief Looking Glass FAS to the confluence with the Clark Fork River near Missoula remain closed. These closures went into effect on July 25 and will continue until the danger from powerlines in the water is resolved.
Recreationists are urged to use caution in areas impacted by the storm and to find alternate locations for outdoor activities. Downed trees, power lines, and other debris may be present, posing safety hazards. It is important for individuals to be aware of potential dangers and to take necessary precautions while out in these areas.
All river closures will remain in effect until safety concerns have been addressed. For more information on closures and restrictions, individuals can visit the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks website.
